I started my marketing/technology carrier back in the late 80’s working for a mail order company called Mac Express. Today it is called MacMall. We purchased a piece of software that ran our entire company, and my life was forever changed. Back then the software was called M.A.C.S. = Merchandising And Cataloging System. It was then owned by Smith Gardner & Associates. (a private company). Then the company dropped the ‘associates’ (I don’t know where they all went) and the company was called SGA
Then the company rode the dot com bubble and went public. Then said bubble burst, the company went private and was bought back by the original owners Will and Allen. Then it was sold to Blue Martini – Remember them? Will and Allen retired somewhere along the coast of Florida.
Escalate Retail bought the company next…
Then Red Prairie…
And now it is currently owned by JDA
Did I get that all right? I hope so. I fear that if I don’t write this all down somewhere, it will get lost somehow. I sure hope JDA continues devlopment of the software. I would hate to see it sold off yet again or worse yet; to die off.
Please feel free to comment if you have worked for any of these companies and share your ‘found memories’ of yesteryear.
